Russell Fail, Pastor

Russell Fail was born and raised in Virginia and has been pastor of several churches in both Virginia and New York. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. He continued to work in the banking industry for several years until he felt God leading him to pursue full time ministry. He received his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. He has a passion to preach the Gospel, reach the lost, and see people deepen their walk with Christ. Russell married his wife Christine in June 1995. Christine has a heart for people and uses her gifts to support her husband and serve those around her. God blessed them with two daughters, Renee and Theresa.

Damon Matthews, Chairmen of the Deacons

Though he grew up in Virginia Beach, Damon regularly visited the Shore as a child and has loved it ever since. Even as a young adult this outdoorsman has demonstrated a deep admiration for God's Creation, and anyone who talks to him can tell. An avid hunter and fisherman, Damon currently lives with his wife Cyndi and daughter Emily in Cashville, and continues to run his own lawn sprinkler business that he's had for over 30 years.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul."

Penny Fowler, Music Director

Penny Fowler has loyally served the church's music ministry for over 40 years, playing piano for the church since she was just 14 years old. As music director, she orchestrates the music for all regular worship services, Christmas and Easter cantatas, other special occasions etc. Born and raised on the ESVA, Penny lives here with her husband Wayne, and is frequently spending time with her beloved grandchildren. One of her favorite Bible passages is Psalms 139 - a psalm written for the "director of music."

Diane King, Sunday School Director

Diane King is one of the most dependable people the church has known, having helped in so many different ways, wearing various hats. She's been a regular in the choir for years, and has led the way for children’s programs, heading up VBS and orchestrating the kids’ annual Christmas plays (not to mention her wonderful influence with Operation Christmas Child). Her experience from her teaching career has likely contributed to her excellence in all these roles, and the strength and love she demonstrates as a wife, mother, and grandmother shows as well.

Stephanie Shelley, Youth Coordinator

A native Virginian from the "Western Shore," Stephanie grew up in a Methodist home where she first experienced her parents' steady faith. A definitive moment of her own spiritual journey was at Triple "R" Ranch, where she made a public declaration of her faith in Christ. Soon after marrying her husband Spencer, the two prayerfully decided Broadway Baptist to be their home church, and since then they have not only furthered their careers as dentists, but have also become parents to two little ones.

"Being a teenager is such a critical time, and it's so important that teens feel supported while starting or building their relationship with Christ. As youth coordinator, I am excited to plan events to enrich the experience of the teens of Broadway Baptist Church in a thoughtful and safe environment."

Season Stiles, Treasurer

Handling all the financial records and dealings for Broadway Baptist may be a complicated task, but Season is the right one for the job. Her experience comes from being the Officer Manager for Spencer G. Shelley DDS. And in addition to the treasurer and office manager roles she bears, she is also a Rodan and Fields consultant, wife to her husband David - and mother to three wonderful children. But when she does have some spare time on her hands, some  of Season's hobbies include duck hunting and baking. Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11.

Sandy Baggett, Missions Coordinator

Although Sandy was raised going to Sunday school and church consistently, it wasn't until later in life when she realized how important such things were. A critical time in her life was when her husband Donnie had to undergo surgery. It was then when she promised God that if her husband came through alright, she would start back at church regularly. All went well with Donnie's surgery, and since then she's been a positive force in the church, heading up the WMU and keeping track of the various missions Broadway Baptist supports. She knows now that "that was [God's] plan all along! Not just to attend church regularly, but to do whatever is asked of me all for the glory of God!"
